Stickers are one of the easiest ways to spark creativity. Kids can build scenes, layer shapes, and make instant little compositions. They give children a playful way to tell new stories on the page. Plus, they’re perfect for building both gross and fine motor skills thanks to all the peeling.

Kids love sticky notes for so many reasons. They love peeling them off the stack, sticking them on their clothes, decorating them, and giving them as little gifts. My students especially adore the heart-shaped ones.

A great replacement for glitter is gem stickers. Kids can use them to decorate cards for Grandma or add little embellishments to paintings. I always keep a stash on hand. They instantly jazz up any project without the mess.

I keep baskets full of circle stickers in my classroom, and they’re used constantly. I love how open-ended they are. Kids add them to drawings and paintings and cardboard sculptures. Simple shapes spark big ideas.

I’ve bought so many sticker-by-number books for my kids, but these are their favorite. The secret is the spiral binding, Since you have to flip back and forth between pages to find all the stickers, the spiral makes that hunt so much easier than other bindings.

Washi tape is my favorite tape to have in the art room. It’s a paper tape, so it won’t leave marks on the walls, but it’s still strong enough for building and decorating. Washi comes in so many colors and patterns, but not all brands are equal — I find Scotch to be the best.

These books kept my kids busy for an entire summer. You can create all kinds of scenes with the stickers, and it’s mostly open-ended because the choices are entirely up to your child. Simple, creative, and endlessly engaging. Great for car rides and restaurant activities.
